The Cloudless Community Choir is a new name and a new home for a community choir that has been established in Maryport for over 10 years. It was decided by the previous administration that the Ewanrigg Community Choir should be wound down but many of the members were determined to carry on meeting and singing for pleasure and for the fellowship that the choir engenders.
Ian Kellett, the Musical Director of Ewanrigg Community Choir was surprised at the strength of feeling at the news of the closure. With many of the members away on holiday and visiting family abroad, the numbers had dwindled so much in January of 2026 that he agreed that the choir had run its course, but was quickly persuaded to consider a new venue nearer to his home in Carlisle.
So a committee was formed, was offered the use of the John Peel Theatre for meetings and members of Ewanrigg choir invited to participate in choosing a name.
So the new choir will have a strong contingent of ex members of the Ewanrigg Community Choir to help The Cloudless Community Choir off to a flying start!
